2014-2017 Blue Planet Odyssey Sailing Rally
MOSF is building a team to participate in the 2014-2017 Blue Planet Odyssey sailing rally. The Blue Planet Odyssey is a 3-year, round-the-world sailing event aimed at raising awareness about of the state of the oceans and promoting activities that encourage collaborative and sustainable ocean practices.
The event has been organized by famous British yachtsman and author, Jimmy Cornell, and will be run under the auspices of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO and in collaboration with the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Over 3 years, the route will pass through both major metropolitan cities and some of the least traveled parts of the oceans. Arrangements have been made with oceanographic institutes and research centers to receive environmental data gathered by participants during the rally. Event participants will take part in community projects such as education outreach, the building or installation of wind and solar powered desalination plants, and activities with schools, hospitals and community organizations.
The Blue Planet Odyssey is already garnering international media attention and will be participating in high-profile media events in cities throughout the world between 2014-2017. During this 3-year event, MOSF will be actively engaged in social media, video and written blogging, and the development “Project Spotlights”, which are comprehensive documents about successful marine conservation projects and data on how those projects can be duplicated. MOSF will engage the services of an experienced marketing firm to find the most efficient ways to promote your products and services and deliver targeted marketing campaigns to ensure our sponsors receive the highest return on their investment. Sailing and yachting event sponsorships portray the image that a business is accomplished, established, green-minded, technologically savvy, and the very best in its industry.

About Cornell Sailing – Blue Planet Odyssey:
Jimmy Cornell, accomplished sailor and well known author of 16 published sailing books, founded Cornell Sailing in 2011. He has sailed 200,000 miles in all of the oceans of the world, including three circumnavigations as well as voyages to Antarctica, Alaska and Spitsbergen. He launched the Blue Planet Odyssey, a round the world event aiming to raise awareness of the global effects of climate change and the most urgent issues facing our ocean. In recognition for this valuable contribution to scientific research, the Blue Planet Odyssey will be run under the auspices of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO and in collaboration with the World Meteorological Organization and National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). About UNESCO – IOC:
Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO is the United Nations body for ocean science, ocean observatories, ocean data and information exchange, and ocean services such as Tsunami warning systems. Its mission is to promote international cooperation and to coordinate programs in research, services and capacity building to learn more about the nature and resources of the oceans and coastal areas, and to apply this knowledge to improved management, sustainable development and protection of the marine environment and the decision making processes of States. Website: http://ioc-unesco.org
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations. It is the UN system’s authoritative voice on the state and behavior of the Earth’s atmosphere, its interaction with the oceans, the climate it produces and the resulting distribution of water resources. As weather, climate and the water cycle know no national boundaries, international cooperation at a global scale is essential for the development of meteorology and operational hydrology as well as to reap the benefits from their application. WMO provides the framework for such international cooperation. Website: https://www.wmo.int
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is a science-based federal agency within the Department of Commerce with regulatory, operational, and information service responsibilities with a presence in every state and our territories. Through its long-standing mission of science, service, and stewardship, NOAA generates tremendous value for the Nation — and the world — by advancing our understanding of and ability to anticipate changes in the Earth’s environment, by improving society’s ability to make scientifically informed decisions, and by conserving and managing ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes’ resources.
